The Board of Commissioners are elected by South Fulton residents to enact ordinances, adopt resolutions and set fees as necessary for the best interest of the city at large.  The Mayor and Vice Mayor are current board members that are appointed by the entire Board of Commissioners.  A School Representative is selected from South Fulton High School and is an honorary seat with the board sharing in discussions but does not vote.

The Commissioners strives to provide a community that embraces the health, safety and welfare of its residents through effective management and progressive planning for the future.

The City is divided into five voting wards. Elections take place each even numbered year; seats for Wards 2 and 4 will be on the ballot for the November 2006 election and seats for Wards 1,3, and 5 will be on the November 2008 ballot.  Qualifying petitions are required for residents that desire to run as a candidate.  These petitions and further pertinent information are available at the Obion County Election Commission office in Union City.
