Mission Statement

“The mission of the South Fulton Public Works Department is to provide utility services for the citizens of South Fulton.  In addition to maintaining the utility and street systems at the lowest cost possible, other services provided are water, sewer, gas, garbage/trash pick-up and responding to the needs of the citizens when called upon.”

There are a total of nine (9) employees in the Public Works Department.  They include the PW Director, Utility Forman, Secretary/Communications, Shop Mechanic and Utility Workers.

 

 

The Public Works consist of 4 divisions which are responsible for upkeep and maintenance of the following:

  • Street - consisting of approximately 20 to 25 miles of city streets, about 5 miles of storm drains and ditches.  They are also responsible for trash and garbage pickup.

Trash pickup is scheduled  for every 1st and 3rd Tuesday and Thursday of each month. One ton loads $20, two ton $40, and add $25 to each if a backhoe is used.  (This service is in addition to the weekly household trash pickup service provided by Barker Brothers which is paid separately from the city pickup service.)

  • Water - consisting of 1 1.0 MGD water treatment plant, with two (2) eight inch (8") wells, coke aeration, chemical treatment and two (2) eight inch (8") high service pumps.  The system has approximately 83 miles of main ranging from 2" up to 10" pipe, 1800 service connections and two 500,000 gallon storage tanks.

  • Sewer  - consisting of a .49 MGD, trickling filter plant, with two (2) six inch (6") influent pumps, two (2) four inch (4") intermediate pumps, two (2) six inch (6") re-circulation pumps and two(2) six inch (6") effluent turbine pumps. The system has approximately 31 miles of gravity flow lines mostly 8" clay line, with approximately 1050 service connections and six (6) pump stations.

  • Gas - consisting of approximately 31 miles of main ranging from 1" to 6" in diameter, with 1020 service connections.  The system has six (6) regulator stations for pressure control.
